Up for sale, a 2004 McPherson MG 4.0 XPW acoustic guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Sparta, WI, McPherson guitars are handbuilt by a small team of luthiers with the choicest selection of top-quality tonewoods and materials. This MG 4.0 comes with an Adirondack red spruce top, widely used on pre-war acoustics and considered the holy grail of topwoods, offering a clear response with high headroom and strong fundamental content. The back and sides are solid African mahogany, providing a warm, lively reproduction with clear mids and a defined, bright, responsive top end. Combined, these tonewoods work in concert to produce an incredibly rich, resonant, hi-fidelity, full spectrum sound. The response is impressively dynamic, allowing for the softest of playing that still maintains a balanced depth and smooth presence, with robust projection and chiming, lush, harmonically-rich sustained tones when played hard. As the model name suggests, the average body depth is 4 inches. Weighing 5lbs 6oz, this McPherson has been professionally set up here at Mike and Mikes Guitar Bar with 12-53 phosphor bronze strings, spot-on intonation, and comfortable action.
The African mahogany neck has a slender and soft V shaped profile, paired with a thick ebony fretboard with koa and multi-ply binding that provides a moderate shoulder. 795 deep at the 1st fret and. 810 at the 9th, with the heel beginning its transition at the 11th fret. The stock slender vintage-style frets are virtually unplayed, barring light wear under the B and high E string on frets 1-4. The frets maintain their full factory height with well rounded crowns, playing clearly in all registers.
The scale is a full 25 1/2, and the 1 7/8 wide bone nut provides comfortable string spacing and optimal sustain. A rosewood overlay with McPherson pearloid inlay and a set of gold Schaller tuners are present on the headstock. On the body, the rosewood bridge sits flush with the top, containing rosewood pegs with pearloid inlays, while the hand-carved and polished compensated bone saddle provides optimal intonation and sustain. The neck is set at ideal angle, and the saddle has lots of height for any needed future adjustment. The African mahogany has particularly vibrant figuring, including the koa binding on the top, back, and soundhole rosette.
Cosmetically, this guitar is showroom clean. A few very small and shallow marks can be seen in the finish on the lower bout edge of the guitar. The neck is pristine, with a single minuscule divot behind fret 8 that is not distracting to the palm. The original hardshell case is included.Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
